the almost campout

I live in a pretty place.

Here's some shots of a recently attempted camping trip--roughly 40 miles away.

Really pretty day.  Really nice drive.

Twenty miles in, we went from some 79 degrees to 30 something.  Burrr.  I like it.

You can still see remnants of the big fire from a few years ago.
All the new growth makes the landscape look awesome.

It was raining/snowing/slushing when we got to the campsite.  I decided it wasn't for me.  I wasn't in the mood to rough it AND be soggy 'n wet.  (Not too mention the bathroom was too far to walk to in the mud.  The words "Big Wussy" come to mind.)

But we waited and watched Steve as he put up the tent.

He wasn't going to let a little bad weather take camping away from him.  I'm not as loyal to the Nature.

We spent a good while in the car, silently cheering him on.  What a good job.  The Boy Scouts of America would have been proud.

The only time in her life she's ever not wanted her picture taken.

But that didn't last long.

After Steve put the tent up, the rain quit.  We decided that Lily and I would go home after dinner.  (Who can pass up fire-cooked hot dogs and S'mores?  If you say, "ME!"  Well that's just sad and your life has no meaning.)

Steve took off in search of dry fire wood.  Lily and I found things to entertain us.  Like crackers.  And deer.  This was a hot spot for them.

We spent a little time there after dinner was over.  Fishing.  Walking around.  Taking pictures.  Smelling things.

Sassy pants.

Lily and I left before it got dark and Steve stayed behind to be a boy and do boy thing.  And we had a girls' slumber party and did girl things.

No.  Not many pictures of me.  Only a couple of double-chinned pictures that Lily took of me in the car while we were waiting around. And being my blog, I have the option of only showing the good...not the bad and/or the ugly.  I just hope my posterity realizes I DID exist.

  2. I always miss the camp-outs.

That one pic of the new growth forest looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie. I like it.

  3. Awesome! I would have been too lonely without my huzzybund to go home though...that and being alone all night with three kids is the stuff nightmares are made of.

If you can't say something nice, say it behind my back.
