summering

What are ya'll doing with your kids this summer?

I'm all out. I need fresh ideas. I need someone else's creativity and genius and inspiration.

(Keeping in mind that I do not like the afternoon Sun. LOATHE would not be overstating it.)

Tell me!

  1. When my kids were younger, we used to have "theme" days. One day would be movie day and we would have popcorn and build forts to watch it in. Another day might be park day and we would catch different parks. I loved cleaning day.

Have your kids help you come up with ideas. Make an activity jar and when they say they are bored, they have to pull an activity out of the jar and do it.

  2. I got nothin sorry. You're way better at this stuff than I am. Have you ever heard of preschoolrock.com? It has some good stuff, not necessarily summer stuff though. Good luck, share what you find! I need all the help I can get!

  3. Well, considering where I live, we are doing plenty of swimming. Plus Harkins has a deal here where you buy 10 tickets for $7. They are kids movies that have already been through the theaters. That's why they are so cheap. So every Tuesday morning my kids and I are going to the movies.

  4. Swim lessons! You are never to young to start. :) I need to get Joshua in a swim class...I freak out whenever we go swimming and he is clinging to me like I am a life boat.
Do you have a library? They sometimes have story time on different days, and usually the story tellers are pretty entertaining.
Hiking? Hiking is good. Kids love dirt.
What about dance classes? Or sports camps? Our Rec center does sports camps all summer long for really cheap (and dance classes). How about camping? You can make costumes for some elaborate dress up. Make a tepee in your back yard. Make your own popsicles. Make candles. Pedicures, manicures, facials, picnics, rock collecting, finger painting, sidewalk chalking, ceramic painting, shoe decorating, macaroni tin can decorating, beading, macrome-ing, orgami folding, construction paper fighting, glow-in-the-dark star decorating, sprinkler jumping, parasol modeling, hair crimping, braid beading, crocheting, knitting! The possibilities are endless! Whoa that made me tired. I think I am just going to sit around all summer.

  5. I'm going to be cowering by my heater, shut up inside, protected from the torrential near-hurricane level wind and rain. Oh yeah. It's winter here. Sorry.
