Hey, Good Lookin'...

I love to cook. I love to watch cooking shows. I love reading cookbooks. I especially love the ones that more or less teach the science of cooking, (like Good Eats). There's a handful that I always try to catch...

A little fact that you may or may not know is that the BEST cooking shows are still on PBS type channels.

Martha Stewart produces Everyday Food and Everyday Baking. I think it's on KBYU/PBS here. Everyday Baking is the best baking show I've seen. Everything this guy makes looks good. I've printed off the majority of recipes he's made. (It's only been on since January.) So, if you like baking or just salivating over the t.v.--this is an awesome show.

This next one is one of the best cooking shows on, period...America's Test Kitchen. At first glance, you'd probably change the channel pretty fast because it looks boring. But if you watch one episode, you'd be hooked. It's fascinating! They take classic recipes and rework them over and over again till they find the BEST way to make them. Fool proof 'em. They teach why things work and why long-standing ways of doing things don't work. It's actually very entertaining. It's also on PBS/KBYU/KUED.

Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger is one of my favorites too. She cooks stuff that looks really good and easy to make--but is also healthy, (hence the show's title). The best chocolate cream pie that I've ever eaten came from this show. Ahhh...it's so good. I usually eat the whole pie in 2 days. I'm also a big fan of her cherry almond clusters. You gotta love a woman that has a healthy cooking show, but throws chocolate in a lot. Her book is next on my list!

I just got this book for my b-day. I'm very excited about it. Hello! It's Trisha Yearwood! I love her. (I'm glad you mentioned this book, Heather! I didn't even know she was coming out with a cookbook until you said something. I'm still so very jealous that you got to meet her! You should send me a photocopy of her signature so I can glue it into my book =) No, really.) I've read through half of it and the recipes look really good and simple! It's fun reading. Trisha, as I like to call her, gives a little story/background on each recipe, which is fun. And even though I've yet to make anything from it, I'd recommend it to all! (--especially you, Casey.) The recipes read really good!

  2. "Cooking Under the Direction of Felons"...?

It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it.

Martha is a genius. Ex-Con or not.

  3. I really used to like watching Cucina Amore, with Johnny and Damian of Carraba's fame. It looks like they've got a new show called Cucina Sicilia coming out. Those two are fun to watch make food. If you ever wanted to see what Texas Italians would act like, watch these guys.

I love going to Carraba's. Anytime I feel like blowing thirty bucks on a single meal, Carraba's get the nod. They have the best food ever.

I also like the show Mexico- One Plate at a Time, with Rick Bayless. He's kind of ghey and over enthused, but he makes some good food.

  7. One question...who are these people that only eat 1 snack a day? I need to know!

  8. The shows I mentioned used to be on PBS, but I'm not sure where they are now. I saw Mexico- one plate at a time a few months ago on some HD channel; can't remember which.

I think there is a Carraba's in Orem, now that I think about it. The one I go to is by Superstition Springs Mall. You should try the one in Orem sometime. It would probably cost you and Steve and Lily about fifty bucks. Not cheap, but worth it.

BTW, I'm currently doing one snack a day, or at least trying to. I've been trying to live with the Three S Diet- No snacks, no sweets, no seconds, except on days that start with S. I'm doing good with the no seconds, decent with the snacks, and not so great with the sweets.

Gluttony's a hard habit to kick, knowhatImean?

  9. Loved your post :) I'm definitely obsessed with cooking shows, or used to be (before Diego, Curious George and the Backyardigans took over).

I wish I had know you were totally into Trisha and I would of gotten one signed for you!
