ABC's and Primary

I'm pumped. We discovered last night that Lily has learned the whole alphabet. Of course, now we have to work on getting shapes and colors down. If she's got the ABC's down, I would think those would be a breeze.

So, we just got home from church about an hour ago. Can you get fired from Primary? I think I may be the first. I teach the 9 year olds and they crack me up in Sharing Time. Never fails. I feel like I'm a kid again, back in Sacrament with my irreverant siblings, giggling at things we think are funny, but really aren't--it's just the slap happy and hunger talking. Luckily, my class sits in the back row. The Primary chorister, also the bishop's wife, often sends daggers my way. I'm always afraid she's going to go home and tell her husband that I was being disruptive. Seriously though, I can't help it. We have a great ole time in the back row!

I usually have two girls and two boys there. Last week, the chattiest of the girls, we'll call her Mary, was sitting next to one of the boys, Jack,--who is maybe autistic or has some form of learning disability--and out of the blue, he hauled off and wacked her in the head. My first instinct was to yell at him in a whisper, but then the other girl, Betty, started laughing cuz her friend just got a taste of Jack's wrath. Her laughing got me laughing--she has a very infectious laugh. The more I thought about it, the more funny it got. I mean, it was funny! I haven't laughed that hard in I don't know how long. Mary, a regular smart-alec and chatterbox, was speechless after she got wacked. I think that made it even more hilarious. Jack usually just sits there quietly. It was so random. After class, Betty asked Jack why he hit Mary, and he said, "She was acting wacky!" I guess he had had enough. I had the whole Primary Presidency glaring at me for that one.

Then today, a different boy, Alex, bit Betty. You would think I was teaching the Sunbeams with all the hitting and biting going on. Although, I found a great way to shut these kids up...tell them how one day they'll want to date and marry each other. I asked Alex to invite me to Betty and his wedding. Betty was open to the idea, but Alex still believes in cooties.

  1. Fired from Primary! That would be the funniest thing I've ever heard of. Sounds like a good movie title. Anyway that is great that the kids crack you up so much. So many people whine about being in primary! About pre-school just find some other mom's in your ward or neighborhood who have kids the same age as Lily. 4 is a good number then you all just teach once a month! I can't believe she already has her ABC's down. That is great. Brody can sing them, but cannot tell you what they are. We're working on it..I'm a bad mom.

  2. I can't take all the credit. Sesame Street has been a big help. How's that for being picture perfect.

If you can't say something nice, say it behind my back.
